About the author

The state of poetry publishing

Since a scandal several years back when a prominent poet who was serving as judge picked her fiancé's manuscript as the winning entry, many contests now prohibit judges from picking the work of friends, lovers, relatives, and former students. That it has only now occurred to the organizers of these contests that this may be a good idea has led some to suggest that the world of poetry is more incestuous than it should be.
